Hello from Winnipeg!

This weekend the Resist Violence Project founders are presenting at the Peace + Social Justice Conference, meeting many new thinkers, creative researchers, and committed activists, all seeing education as an agent of change. As we introduce people at home and abroad to our pedagogy, slowly building a community of practice, we are also excited to simultaneously launch our website. We have had a lot of fun creating it, and learnt a lot about web development along the way, and hope you find it as inspiring as we do. With many important interdisciplinary resources offering a variety of perspectives to address pressing social issues and assignment ideas that bring art and activism into the classroom, the website can be a useful tool. We are aiming to encourage those wanting to address issues of violence and nonviolence in their classes but are unsure how, and to provide resources for those already doing so. Following three main areas of focus: critical thinking, media literacy and creative expression, we encourage you to check out our videos and go to our about page to get a sense of what we do and where we are coming from.

We are looking for people to join our efforts, share their experiences and resources, and mostly, keep in touch about what works and does not work for them in their disciplines. If this interests you, be sure to sign up for our newsletter below.

If you are curious as to what we may be presenting at this conference, be sure to have a look at our ideas for the classroom page, scroll down to the re-appropriate, re-imagine box and create some memes with us. Send them our way through email, as our forum is still under construction: resistingviolence@gmail.com, we’d love to see the results!

Thanks for your time,

Kim + Pat
